Who we are:

BrightSpace Builders is an Asheville-based general contractor specializing in remodels and renovations, with roots in historic restoration, custom cabinetry, timber framing, and energy-efficient new construction. Design is at the core of everything we do—from the finest trim details to the overall structure and flow of a space— we believe both play a vital role in how a home feels to the people living in it.

We chose the name “BrightSpace” to reflect our belief that light is a key element of thoughtful design. Whether we’re refining small details or reimagining the layout of a home, we help clients create spaces that help them fall in love with their home again.

Luke LaCava - Founder/Carpenter/Contractor

A licensed contractor with a decade of hands-on experience working in the field and in architectural millwork shops. Luke’s carpentry career has covered a wide range of building and construction—from historical millwork in New Orleans to building timber-frame homes across New England to framing modern, energy-efficient houses.

Luke began his carpentry career in New Orleans as an apprentice in a millwork shop building sash windows, doors, shutters and other architectural features for historic buildings in the French Quarter. From there he started renovating older homes throughout the city, developing a passion for the problem-solving required to renovate the historical aging homes slowly sinking into the swamp they were built on. New Orleans is where his love for architecture and design was born.

After years of working in New Orleans, he moved to Massachusetts, where he focused on timber framing and modern, energy-efficient new construction. He was lucky enough to study timber framing under Hank Silver, who went on to help rebuild the roof trusses of Notre Dame!

Luke worked for many years on his own and with fellow collaborator Carlos Fergusen until moving to Asheville in 2025, where he worked for a local renovation company. He founded BrightSpace in 2026 with the goal of transforming the way people live in their homes—bringing in more light and space - in order to bring more joy to the spaces they use everyday.
